Around the World This Summer
As summer approaches and families begin preparing for their holiday trips, our classroom took a moment to reflect on where the world will be taking us this year. This inspired our “Most Wanted Destinations” where students explored their upcoming travel destinations through art and language.
Each student created a drawing of the city they will be visiting this summer. Alongside their artwork, they also learned how to write the city names in Chinese, bringing together creativity, culture, and language learning in a meaningful way. Through this process, students were able to connect their personal travel plans with classroom learning in a fun and engaging format.
Inspired by the classic story, children were divided into three “kingdoms” and took part in an exciting archery competition. Each team aimed to “borrow” as many arrows as possible by scoring points through their shots. Through friendly competition, teamwork, and strategy, they experienced the spirit of the story in a fun and engaging way.
To celebrate the effort and creativity behind the project, the top two winners received a custom-designed T-shirt featuring their own artwork, turning their drawings into something they can wear and keep as a memory of this experience.
Looking back, this was a wonderful activity for learning about the world around us — from different cities and cultures to basic geography. More importantly, it was also a chance for students to share laughter, stories, and excitement with their friends. Through drawing and sharing, they not only explored where they will be going this summer, but also enjoyed the process of learning together.
