Five pillars, one program.

§ What makes BHCS
01
Founding strength

Chinese Language & Culture

Our academic foundation is built on rigorous Chinese language instruction and rich cultural learning at the core of everything we do. We use engaging teaching methods such as interactive reading and writing practice, guided speaking conversations, storytelling, games, and immersive cultural activities to make language learning both effective and enjoyable. As a member of the Chinese School Association in the United States (CSAU), we stay connected to a broader community of Chinese language education.

Math Foundation and Exploration

Math is a cornerstone of the BHCS academic experience, delivered through three layers: daily grade-level math classes that keep students confident and on track; Singapore Math enrichment that builds deep problem-solving skills and advanced mathematical thinking; and teacher-supported homework time, where staff work closely with each student to reinforce concepts and meet individual needs. We are also a Math Kangaroo test center and offer complimentary Math Kangaroo prep sessions to help students prepare with confidence for the competition.

Balanced Enrichment

Art, chess, speech, music, tennis, basketball, and more are woven into each week as part of a balanced, engaging learning experience—not just add-ons. New for 2026–27, we are launching an English Reading & Language Arts program at the Foster City Public Library to support literacy growth, build strong reading habits, and nurture a lifelong love of reading while strengthening comprehension, communication, and confidence in expression.

Championship Chess

Not a one-off club. Structured lessons by level with our partner King’s Land Chess, monthly over-the-board open-rated tournaments on campus, and a weekly chess club led by expert instructors—building strategic thinking, focus, and discipline over screen time. We focus on chess because it strengthens problem-solving, patience, resilience, strategy, and decision-making skills that carry over into academics and life.

Beyond the classroom

Outdoors, Field Trips & Scouting

Our signature outdoor program with Scouting America weaves leadership, teamwork, and character into every week. Through meaningful field trips and partnerships with local nonprofit organizations, students extend their learning beyond the classroom—gaining real-world understanding of how nonprofits support communities, reduce poverty, promote fairness, and care for seniors and those in need.
