Chinese New Year Through Our Students' Eyes
This Chinese New Year, our students created handwritten posters to share their own understanding of the holiday.
They expressed what Chinese New Year means to them. Family reunion dinners, red envelopes, dumplings, firecrackers, and the meaning of the zodiac year. Some wrote about calling grandparents overseas at midnight, while others described cleaning the house before the New Year and decorating everything in red to welcome good luck and a fresh start.
What made the activity special was not perfect handwriting, but personal voice. Each poster reflected a child’s perspective, blending tradition with their own experiences.
More than a festive project, it was a chance for students to connect with their culture and express it in their own words.
